Thank You, St. Francis, for Hosting the Family Shelter!
We had a great week at Alpha House. The staff had many positive comments about the St. Francis volunteers and the food. They were also very impressed that we did not have any "no-shows." The volunteers who slept over encountered no emergencies, so they were able to have a peaceful night's sleep. Alpha House had a very low census for most of the week - just 3 families - towards the end of the week they were up to 5 families. As our St. Francis Parish coordinator I met MANY new people from St. Francis. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks to the parishioners at St. Francis of Assisi Church, the residents at IHN Alpha House had great meals and more than seven hours of supervised playtime during the week of May 28 through June 3. Forty-seven volunteers, including 12 kids ages 9-17, provided approximately 150 hours of service to this homeless shelter for families.
