Justice Prayer Partners November 2012

Dear Justice Prayer Partners:

Just after our St. Francis' Peace and Justice Committee meeting we like to make this special prayer request.  And, we thank you for your continued prayer... Please join your prayers with ours especially concerning the following efforts.

Pray for Homelessness Awareness Month of November: We are currently hosting the "Searching for the Key" / "Dinner Guests" art exhibit in the church.    See photos at:  http://service4justice.blogspot.com/2012/11/homelessness-awareness-month-is.html

Pray for the folks involved in the Interactive Welfare Simulation: A free simulation will be held on Tuesday, 11/13 at the MichiganTheatre @ 7:00 pm. It's called "Spent" and is an interactive, role-playing learning opportunity.  Sponsored by RAAH, Washtenaw Housing Alliance, and United Way.

Pray for our St. Francis Sustainability efforts to preserve the earth and its resources:  http://www.stfrancisa2.com/sustainability
the Better Buildings for Michigan home energy audits/assessments are being offered for $50 to show you ways you can make your home more energy efficient.  Contact one of these specialists:  Chelsea Lumber, Ms. Green Construction, Meadowlark Energy, and Pro Energy Consultants.   Enrollment in the Better Buildings program is available through December 31, 2012 or until funds run out.   If you really want to talk more about this you are welcome to contact:  Stephen Lavender (home:734-973-2564) <slavende@att.net>.

Pray for our efforts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council in October 2012.  Forum articles will give an overview of Vatican II and focus on the most significant changes that resulted from it. And, we'll probably have a speaker at St. Francis in January or February to discuss it more.   See: http://service4justice.blogspot.com/2012/10/council-of-vatican-ii.html

Pray for our efforts to organize our Lenten Project ideas (perhaps a theme of "Sustaining our Housing", the ongoing need for more affordable housing, and/or have a sustainability focus on sponsoring a 2013 Habitat for Humanity Catholic House, with ways to green our homes and lives.  See: http://www.stfrancisa2.com/church-community/outreach/partnering-ministries/habitat-for-humanity

Pray for our efforts to accomplish these Committee Goals for 2012/2013:
- Goal #1:  Individual project leaders will promote Catholic Social Teaching (CST) themes in accordance with their interests (please refer to the Committee's annual CST calendar for a list of actual activities each month).  We will continue to explore opportunities to connect with other social ministry groups at St. Francis, and continue our ongoing efforts related to recurring projects such as Special Collections.

- Goal #2:  The Committee will coordinate with and support the goals of the Sustainability Team, advancing stewardship and care for God's creation in the parish.

- Goal #3:  The Committee will lead an educational and fund-raising project during Lent.
